Evergreen is investing over $3 billion to order 11 ultra-large 24,000 TEU containerships. Six will be built by South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean and five by China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International, with prices between $265M and $295M each. This brings Evergreen’s orderbook to 821,423 TEU, making it the fifth-largest globally. The new ships, expected to be delivered from 2028 onwards, will likely be LNG dual-fueled. Meanwhile, CMA CGM is reportedly planning to order 24 LNG dual-fuel 18,000 TEU ships. Other carriers and shipowners, such as Danaos and Navigare Capital, have also placed new ship orders.
